The Road Safety Research, Policing and Education Conference is endorsed as
the 'premium annual forum on road safety policy and practice' by
the Australian Transport Council - which comprises all Federal, State
and Territory Ministers with transport responsibilities and includes and observer
from local government.
It is conducted annually in different States, Territories and New Zealand from
year to year, through the agency of the Research Coordination Advisory Group - which
is an Austroads Working Group.
The Conference Objectives are to:
- Present the latest findings from road safety research.
- Discuss innovations in road safety, policy development, program management and practice.
- Ultimately, reduce road crash trauma by ensuring that decision makers are adequately informed about the likely effectiveness of various road crash countermeasures.
- Provide a venue for discussion of advances in road safety research and practice.
The Conference features a number of keynote speakers. There are also concurrent
presentations focusing on developments in road safety research and practice.
The range of topics discussed includes: Speeding; Drink Driving; Fatigue;
The Safety of Motorcyclists, Cyclists and Pedestrians; Vehicle Safety; Crash
Trends;
Community Road Safety Groups; and issues relating to Young and Older Drivers.
Workshops on significant current road safety initiatives and controversial
road safety issues are held in conjunction with the Conference.
